Situated in Naivasha, just 90 km from Nairobi, Hell’s Gate National Park spans 68 km² and stands out as one of Kenya’s most interactive wildlife destinations. With no large predators, visitors can safely walk, cycle, or hike among zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, and other plains game—an experience rarely offered in a national park.
The park’s dramatic cliffs, towering gorges, and iconic landscapes—including the real-life Pride Rock—inspired the scenery of the The Lion King.
Fischer’s Tower – A 25-metre volcanic plug ideal for beginner and intermediate rock climbers.
Central Tower – Another striking rock formation offering more technical climbing routes.
Ol Njorowa Gorge – A 24 km ravine with steep cliffs and geothermal hot springs. Due to flash-flood risk, a local guide is mandatory for lower-gorge hikes.
The park hosts the Olkaria Geothermal Station, Africa’s first geothermal plant and a major source of Kenya’s renewable energy.
Cycling Safaris – Rent a bicycle at the main gate and pedal past grazing zebras, giraffes, and antelopes.
Rock Climbing – Climb routes on Fischer’s Tower or the main cliffs, suitable for all levels.
Olkaria Geothermal Spa – Enjoy turquoise, mineral-rich, naturally heated pools.
Raptor Watching – The towering cliffs host raptors such as Verreaux’s Eagles and Rüppell’s Vultures.
June–October and January–February: Ideal for hiking, cycling, and gorge exploration.
March–May (long rains): Trails—especially the gorge—can be slippery and unsafe.
Non-Residents: Adults USD 50 / Children USD 25
East African Citizens: Adults KES 500
There are no lodges inside the park, but several public campsites are available:
Endachata
Naiburta
Oldubai
Most visitors stay at nearby Naivasha resorts, which offer easy access to the park.
